Mission:
Take off from A15 in FW190D9 and CAP A20 area.
Description:

We take off as planed only 7 of us (Duvel still missing) and form at 9kft
heading A20.
I'm not sure we have noticed, but at an early stage, there
were reports by "Urchin" of enemy takeoffs from A20 and that they
where engaging. We start to climb to 20kft as planned and pass above
the fight without noticing it (5 P-51 vs 4 doras). At this stage
Duvel joins the frame and takes off alone from A15.
As we cross the coast headng NW I spot 2 dots at our 12 high, and
announce it on RW. They turn out to be P-51, part of a formation that was
SW of us out of icon range. They make a pass without engaging and head for
their friends. We engage 7 P-51 and 2 Spits and the furball begins where
we have the lower E state.
I find one P-51 swooping down fast on me. A quick flip-flop and he
zooms up to safty.
Now I am free so asses the situation. I see BlazeCat smoking bad,
Goofy engaged with one P-51 and GA high above me dragin a p-51 and a
spit.
Not having enough E to go up those fights, I spot a lower P51 and
a chase begins. He takes me down to the deck for a scissor fight under
his friend. I manage to close in for the shot, ping the tip of his wing
with MG for no effect when he pulls hard for his life.
I always have trouble with LW guns - much slower than Hispanos, so
I hit too low.
The other P-51 is droping on me so the first one is saved and we pass
very close HO.
I use the high speed to extend from those 2, exit the fight and climb
for E. New assesment shows Escort2 & Goofy fighting 4 P-51's and
GA fighting a spit while leaking a white tail of fuel.
I rush toward GA and try to scare the spit off with a HO pass. The
Spit is not impressed and continue after GA. I didn't want to resort to
violence, I asked him politly to leave, but shooting at my CO really
makes my blood boil... UUUUURRRRRRRRGGGGHHH!
GA brings him around again and I wait and catch the little buger at
the top of his yo-yo when slowest. This time the deflection is perfect
and the spit is covered with two series of flashes, loses a wing and goes
down in black smoke- YEH!
GA rewards me with a 6 call. Looking over my shoulder I see the second
spit trying to revenge his friend. Nose down, quick roll and I leave him
unstatisfied.
Again exiting the fight and picking up E, I slowly turn back - not
a pretty picture. Only 2 green icons and GA playing train, with him as
the locomitive (even smoking properly) and 4 (!) P-51 as the carts :)
The plan was I'd sweep down, take a snap shot at the first P-51 on
the train and zoom away maybe taking a few of them after me.
So down I go, but am tempted to stay on the p51's tail too long, I
loose too much speed. It seemed as if first part worked and he's leaving
GA but on recording I saw GA was a chute.
Looking over the shoulder I realize that now I am the locomotive....
O-OH!
Scissor scissor scissor... 1st in line gets a ping and is ejected
from the zig-zag. NEXT!
2nd comes in, can't keep up and is ejected from the line landing a
ping on the way out. NEXT!
Now I'm on the deck. 3rd and 4th are patient, slow down and take snapshots:
one on the ZIG and the other on the ZAG.
Hopless.
Tail shot off, then the right wing. I don't even get to hit the water.
All vikings down exept for Duvel. I hope his adventuers would be posted
on the BBS.
Conclusion:
- We engaged with E disadvantage. We should consider climbing further
away from CAP area and only then moving in.
- We should consider pairing up for A2A missions.
- Dora is one mean scissoring machine. Picks up E really quick, good
ammo load and challenging guns. Never flown it much but I might start :)
- REALLY enjoyed this furball! It had every thing: about even numbers,
good a/c match up, defending, attacking, clearing squadies, exits
and entrances and a spit shot down.
